The workshop is run in the Arran Outdoor Education Centre in Lamlash from 5.00pm on Monday until 3.00pm Wednesday.

It is a non residential workshop giving you the choice to choose your own accommodation. Transport from accommodation in Brodick or Lamlash to the centre is included as well as travel to and from locations.

Includes a buffet lunch on two days as well as tea and coffee at the centre. 

The workshop covers:-

  1. Initial setup of the camera, principles of digital photography, composition
  2. The 'Golden Hour' - early morning and evening location shoots
  3. Use of filters, long exposures
  4. ​Coastal and woodland locations
  5. Processing; the 'digital darkroom'. Use of proprietary photo software. Critique of participants' images


Participants must be of a reasonable standard of fitness as there will be a degree of walking over rocky and boggy terrain

Minimum equipment requirements are:

  1. Digital camera with aperture and shutter controls and able to accept filters (this does not have to be an SLR).
  2. Tripod
  3. Neutral density filter/s
  4. Graduated neutral density filter/s (ND grad)
  5. Sturdy walking boots.
  6. Waterproofs - it sometimes rains in Scotland.
